This three-mile (round-trip) walk down a firm beach will take you to the 1579 site of Drake's landing. It's a rarely-visited site in near-16th century condition.
Members of the Drake Navigators Guild, the group which has been studying the landing since 1949, will lead the hike and provide commentary and descriptions.
Bring good shoes, water, snacks, lunch, sunscreen, camera, field glasses. Layer clothing: it can be bitingly cold or hot and sunny. By NPS rules, no dogs.
We should be back at the parking lot around noon. (Snacks may be available at the gift shop: the restaurant closed years ago.)
NOTE: There are three Visitor Centers in Point Reyes National Seashore. Be sure to check — sometimes people go to the wrong one!
